Shipping is an integral part of the worldwide Petroleum Industry.
Since 1985 Petrojam has owned and operated vessels for the
delivery of finished products, transportation of crude oil and for
bunkering vessels in Kingston Harbour.
Marine Operations
Petrojam, situated on the Port of Kingston - the seventh largest
natural harbour in the world is strategically positioned to bunker
ships in the harbour area. From this location, refined products are
received and delivered to various ports around the island of
Jamaica, as well as exported to countries in the region.
Located in the centre of the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica is well
positioned to take advantage of the opportunity to bunker vessels
plying the North and South bound shipping lanes of the Western
Hemisphere.
Bunkering
Bunkering ships since 1995, the tug and barge unit acquired
to supply fuel to cruise vessels in Montego Bay, the Company's
marine refuelling operations have been expanded over the years,
culminating in the complete retrofitting in 2003 of the Petrojam
Barge #1 for bunker service.
The tug and barge unit supplies bunkers to vessels operating in
the Port of Kingston.
Prior to this, bunkers were performed mainly by Road Tanker
Wagon (RTW).
Bunkers are also supplied by RTW, as well as by pipeline to ships
docked at Petrojam's pier.
Bunkers at ports outside of Kingston, including Ocho Rios,
Montego Bay, Port Antonio and Port Esquivel are currently supplied
by RTW.
Logistics & Operations
Marine operations are managed and coordinated by Petrojam's
logistics team. Bunkers are mainly delivered by the combined
unit of the Tug Negril and Petrojam Barge #1.
The combined unit is operated by an experienced, well-trained
and highly efficient crew that understand and responds to the
need for good customer service.
The Barge
With a capacity of 2300 metric tons IFO380 and 700 mt MGO,
the Petrojam Barge #1 is able to handle all bunker requirements.
It is fitted with a Fuel Oil blender and can supply any IFO
(Intermediate Fuel Oil) blend ships may require. It can also
deliver IFO380 and MGO individually.
Outfitted with a crane, one MGO and two IFO pumps, all driven
by diesel engines, emergency and safety operations are maintained
with firewater pumps, oil-spill booms and high/low alarms.
Competitive Prices
The bunker fuel supplied by Petrojam to vessels is priced very
competitively, is of a very high quality, and complies with current
ISO 8217 and MARPOL VI standards and procedures.
Fuel Agreement
In 2005, Petrojam entered into a Fuel Supply Agreement with
Aegean Marine Petroleum, in which IFO 380 and MGO are
supplied to their bunker vessels, enabling the offshore bunkering
of vessels passing the Port of Kingston. This arrangement allows
Aegean to market bunker fuel from Petrojam to vessels offshore
Kingston.
The Future
The increase in Jamaica's cruise shipping business and with
the current expansion and development of the Port of Kingston
as a world class facility and a key transhipment location for
hemispheric trade, Petrojam can now benefit from the prime
opportunity for expansion of bunker activity, as well as export
sales in marine products and services.
